Bubble Gum Valentine: Precognitive Dream One
Bubble Gum Valentine
Experiencing a precognitive dream for the first time feels very strange. To have a premonition dream happen when you are eleven years old can really send you into a tailspin!
The following dream happened nearly 41 years ago...
Before the Dream
The man I bestowed the title of Dad to was a deranged individual. We had met him when I was in first grade. I was so excited, at the thought of having a father that I proposed the idea to him. Quite literally, I asked the man if he would be my dad.
My mother and I had no idea how quickly or violently our lives would change. From the age of six to the age of fourteen that man would be a dark part of our lives. He was physically, mentally, and sexually abusive.
I remember having a dream when I was about seven years old. In the dream, I was at my grandmother's. The atmosphere was safe and loving. When I awoke from that dream, I was disoriented. The dream had felt so real! Instead of being at my grandmother's I was at my step-grandmother's, a thousand miles.
Crying, I would squeeze my eyes closed attempting to will myself back. Back into that dream. Back to where I was safe.
My World Was Filled With Hope
It was February 1983. My wish had come true and I was living with my grandmother and aunt. This wish fulfillment released a lot of stress. My mother, younger brother, and I had been living with the never-ending nightmare of abuse.
Grandma had enrolled me in the grade school just down the street. The welcome I received on my first day of attendance was a bit overwhelming, as I had not experienced such quick friendships before.
That first day of class the teacher introduced me. Well, all of the students were talking really loud to me. I finally asked, "Um, why is everyone yelling at me?" To my surprise, my grandmother had told the school I had a hearing impairment. I guess, my grandmother didn't go into detail because the whole classroom thought I was deaf.
The class assured me that everything was alright, and they were happy to learn I wasn't deaf because they didn't know how long they could keep talking loudly. I laugh about this today, but then I was mortified!
Everything was going beautifully, and I was so happy to have found a wonderful group of people my age to talk with. My dreams were coming true, but I didn't realize the bizarre twist about to unfold.
February 13th
Our assignment on Friday was to make a Valentine Card Holder and fill out cards for the entire class. Everyone was filled with anticipation. It felt strange to be excited and apprehensive over Valentine's Day. Everyone seemed preoccupied with having a boyfriend or girlfriend.
That Friday afternoon I visited with my new best friend. She lived a block away. It was with her guidance that I came up with my Valentine Mailbox.
On Saturday, I celebrated my 11th birthday. I don't remember much of it. My Grandma and Aunt probably took me to Village Inn where I would have ordered the German Apple Pancake. It took forever to make, but they were so delicious.
It was late on the thirteenth day before I began working on the class assignment. With the help of my aunt, I created a Valentine's mailbox. It was a decorated cardboard box that would fit on my desk.
After this, I sat with my box of store-bought, cards and the list of classmate names. I carefully chose cards for at least a dozen kids and scrawled their names on each one. Once I was finished I fell asleep easily.
Valentine's Morning
On the morning of Valentine's Day, I recounted my dream to my Aunt and Grandmother.
In the dream, I walked to my desk. There were cards scattered across the top, but one stood out. Resembling a postcard, it was larger than the rest, and predominantly green in color. Two cartoonish pears danced on the front with the words: "We Make A Perfect Pear."
The card was odd compared to the other cards. It filled me with a strange apprehension in the dream that I could not explain.
This Valentine's card was not lying flat on the desk and I was compelled to pick it up first.
A strange emotion grasped me as I reached for the card to turn it over. A piece of bubble gum was taped to the back with the words "Be My Valentine," written by hand. Then I woke up.
My aunt and grandmother listened intently and agreed it was uncanny I would have such a dream the night before Valentine's Day.
The strangeness of the dream faded as my aunt dropped me off at school and I was consumed with the energy of childhood friends on the playground.
It's A Party!
The grade school I attended believed in allowing the kids to have fun. Every Friday we would have a popcorn party after our spelling test. Someone would bring music. Another person was designated to bring a stereo. Whoever had popcorn and an air popper would tote that to the classroom. Then we would spend the day listening to music, laughing, and munching on freshly popped popcorn. We thoroughly looked forward to Fridays.
Spending Valentine's Day at school made it feel like a four-day weekend! We had treats, music, and of course, cards. When the teacher gave his permission to get out of our seats the party began. All of us made our rounds to each student's desk. We would drop our cards into their Mailbox, or toss the card on the desk.
As we passed each other, silly conversations would erupt and Sweethearts candies exchanged. The room was filled with the scent of candy and giggles.
To restore some order in the chaos, our teacher asked us to return to our desks.
That Looks Familiar
As I approached my desk, an eerie feeling washed over me. The card I had seen in my dream was sitting on my desk in the exact same way!
My heart was thudding in my chest. My hands trembled as I reached for the card. I am unsure if the room suddenly fell silent, or if I was just so focused on that card that I no longer heard the room filled with kids.
As I turned the card over, the piece of bubble gum taped to the card jumped out at me. By this time my eyes were beginning to water. I was flooded with confusion and I glanced up and around the room.
Bewilderment Was Written On My Face
I didn't know what to do with this strange experience. As I gazed across the room attempting to process how this could happen. How was it possible to be re-living a dream in waking life? I was stunned and it showed.
One boy with dark hair and ice-blue eyes walked to my side. His name was signed on the card. He said, " I tried to put the card in the box, but the slot wasn't large enough for the gum to fit through."
Still trying to sort out this jump-through-time thing his words were barely understood by me.
His best friend and, also the most popular, but somewhat bullish boy in school, spoke up. "So? What's your answer?"
"Hmm? What do you mean?" I asked right as the significance of the card hit me.
The friend of the card giver laughed, "He asked you out! Are you going to say yes?"
The whole class was staring at me. I looked at the boy who gave me the card. He was adorably cute. He was the smallest person in our class and looked even smaller when standing beside his best friend.
As cute as he was, I really was not that interested. "I... I don't know," I stammered. How do you tell someone in front of the whole fifth-grade class that you're really not interested in them?
Suddenly, everyone in the classroom had the same opinion. I should say yes. I should say yes and be this boy's girlfriend. I said yes. Did I succumb to peer pressure?
My World Changed With A Bubble Burst
So it was, that I had a boyfriend on Valentine's Day. I spent the rest of the day having classmates make me and my boyfriend hold hands and tell us how cute we looked together. I didn't see it, but I also didn't know how to get out of it. Having a boyfriend was new to me. I could not wait to get home so, I could talk with my Aunt and Grandmother about this weirdness!
The Wisdom of Elders
At home, my grandmother and aunt shared my surprise. Though, I felt they should have been more stunned. It is not every day someone comes home holding evidence of a premonition dream.
Little was said about the dream manifesting. It seemed unusual occurrences happened often. My aunt shared stories of strange happenings that occurred throughout her life. "We all have some psychic abilities. Sometimes it's stronger than others," she said.
Grandmother giggled and teased me a little about having a boyfriend. Then they both reassured me that I did not have to commit to or stay committed to the cute blue-eyed boy.
Dreams Helped Me Believe
Having that first precognitive dream changed my perception of this world and this life. It was with that first dream I became very interested in the abilities of our minds. Different dimensions and the paranormal summoned me. Luckily this would not be my last premonition dream.
If you are interested in your dreams, you should keep a record of them by using or creating a Dream Journal.
